Lessons/Knowledge/Skills Learned Gained During Implementation of Syllabus
Our group learned a few things rather organically during the implementation of the syllabus in the process of recording our videos. Going with our theme of emotions in learning, we encountered several ways a facilitator can lower stress and anxiety for students that may be in a new, uncomfortable environment.
Our group member Andrea, the facilitator during the lesson plan demonstration video, built subtle humor into her script as she is presenting material and immediately breaks down barriers of nervousness and anxiety from the other members of the group. Also, by keeping the humor light and sparse, it does not become a distraction from the material she is presenting.
Then during the resource scavenger hunt, the facilitator takes two important steps in reducing the stress and anxiety of the student presenting for group one. She's engaging with him while he is screen sharing and navigating to the Counseling Center's website and is validating his actions. This affirmation takes pressure off the student, who may not be sure whether they are presenting correctly or following the directions like the instructor desires. Secondly, she recognizes when the student has stumbled during the presentation and guides him back on course. The facilitator has a feel for the pulse of the class and saves the student from what could have been an embarrassing moment in front of their peers.
Lastly, the facilitator encounters a file that will not open, effectively yet unintentionally modelling imperfection in front of the class. After she recovers and uses a different source for the file, she assures the students that the learning environment is one in which mistakes are made and that it is okay.

Hi, Group 3!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed viewing your final showcase videos, and I appreciated that you had a link to the scripts for the videos. This is incredibly helpful to anyone who is more of a visual learner than an auditory learner, like me. I also liked how you created multiple videos for the different components that you wanted to highlight in your final showcase. Additionally, I liked the hyperlinked resources that supplemented the posted videos. I honestly liked the overall presentation of your final showcase.
I appreciated some of the points you made in your course reflection video. I liked how you pointed out that knowing the grades of the examples given would be helpful. I sincerely agree that it was a bit overwhelming to view the examples as a whole, and knowing how points were distributed would have allowed us to use them more effectively. I also agree with you that Canvas is a better way than Blogger to submit assignments, and I liked your idea that we could show how we are saving our work for the future. I always make a copy of everything I submit in my Google Drive. I even have a copy of all of my discussion responses for each of the courses I have taken so far.
Thank you for sharing such a well thought out project!
Group 3, your class seems like one that I would be interested in registering for after reviewing the syllabus! I love that your class offers options for those who may feel anxiety surrounding different activities such as speaking in front of others and also the encouragement of peer connections. Your activities also seem very engaging. I can tell a lot of thought was put into both the syllabus design itself and its implementation. Your reflection video also hit a lot of points that I agree with after finishing the course such as the use of blogger vs other means for working on group projects and preserving work. I think making the group plan at the beginning of the course was also a great way to make sure group work was split up evenly and conflict was avoided. You all did great on this assignment! Way to finish the semester strong!
ReplyDeleteGroup 3,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your presentations. The content was easy to understand and follow even though I am someone who still enjoys public speaking and individual work. I felt as if I was in an actual course and you all explained everything well and in great detail.
Hi Group 3,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your project and thank you for providing such detail! I enjoyed the demonstration and roleplaying you guys did to help showcase what your course was all about.
I liked how you made multiple videos to demonstrate the different aspects of your syllabus implementation. I agree some resources provided for the weekly discussions were more useful than others, but I always enjoyed having them, because if I was completely lost in the readings, the visual of the videos helped my comprehension.

Group 3 this is amazing, I like how you implemented videos for learners in this Final Showcase. I would say this is a great example of collaboration. Each one of you were able to designate a role and made a visual for the learners. Making this presentaion assessible in text for is a good way for learner who are visual but another way to give the presentation. You guys presented well and included several ways a facilitator can lower stress and anxiety for students that may be in a new, uncomfortable environment
